Case Study: IT Asset Collection for a Major Government Department
S2S Group, May 2025
S2S Group partnered with a major government department that required a secure and efficient WEEE recycling service.
The department approached S2S Group to arrange the collection of multiple electronic devices which had become end of life and therefore needed to be destroyed with data security as the number one priority.
Project Overview
S2S Group has worked with multiple large corporate organisations to deliver with IT asset disposal and data destruction services; therefore, we were well positioned for this work.
For this client, we travelled across the UK to collect WEEE items from over 40 sites, ensuring that all redundant devices were managed securely due to the highly sensitive data they held.
What We Did
As this was quite a large project covering the entire UK, it was essential that S2S Group effectively planned to the finest detail and ensured that the collection was as smooth as possible.
As over 40 government department sites needed their WEEE items to be collected, S2S Group ensured that they planned the logistics of carrying out such a task and made sure to inform the relevant stakeholders of the realistic completion timeframe.
The S2S Group team effectively prepared each site to ensure that they understood how and when the collections were going to take place, and the importance of data security throughout the process.
S2S Group’s Operations and Sales teams liaised with all the site contacts provided on each day to confirm that the collection was suitable.
Two operatives attended the site, securely packed the assets into secure cages, and transported them back to S2S Group’s secure facility.
Upon arrival, assets were weighed and assessed by the IT and warehouse teams for refurbishment, recycling, or destruction. Devices suitable for resale were refurbished, data erased using Blancco software and refreshed to look and function like new.
To ensure that all sites were fully compliant with the process, all relevant documents were provided well in advance and the entire process was logged using S2S Group’s booking system, Trakk-IT, for traceability. Trakk-IT is S2S Group’s innovative customer portal, designed for end-to-end tracking and transparency of IT assets throughout the entire ITAD process. The entire process took just 30 days to complete.
Ensuring Security & Compliance
Central to this process was S2S Group’s promise to provide a secure and compliant operation.
Because S2S Group adhered to the agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and in the correct timescales, effectively and securely, the client has come back to work with us again on multiple occasions.
Reflecting on the services they engaged with, the Compliance Manager said: “Your efforts for me have been spot on! I was impressed that the whole process only took 30 days from start to finish, with 100% success rate. We know S2S can be relied on to provide a smooth and efficient service, so we’d recommend them every time.”
Commitment to Sustainability and Compliance
S2S Group is committed to the circular economy which seeks to maintain the functionality as well as extend the utility of components and materials of products throughout their lifecycle. By working with large scale organisations such as this, we’re helping industries recognise the importance of e-waste recycling and compliance.
Reducing waste and maximising recycling rates with our clients, in line with the waste minimisation hierarchy, is at the heart of the operational aspects of the business. S2S Group reuses as many assets as possible (within the client’s data security constraints) and recyclea the rest through a manual disassembly process that optimises recycling rates and reduces the need for a large processing plant.
