S2Say IT – S2Say IT – Insights from Ruby Parker: Navigating the Impact of Regulatory Changes in the ITAD Industry

Our S2Say It blog series shares the insights and experiences of our team members, providing valuable thought leadership on the ITAD industry.

In the latest edition of S2Say IT, we speak with Ruby Parker, Marketing & Events Coordinator at S2S Group, about her journey in the IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) industry.

Ruby discusses how the company has evolved with regulatory and technological change and shares her thoughts on the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the sector.

How long have you worked at S2S Group?

I joined S2S Group in November 2021, and next month I’ll be celebrating my fourth work anniversary. It’s been incredible to grow with the company and see first-hand how much we’ve achieved in that time.

What inspired you to get involved in the IT Asset Management sector?

My journey into IT Asset Management (ITAM) began when I joined S2S Group as a Marketing Apprentice. At the time, I didn’t know much about ITAD or ITAM, but I was drawn to the company’s strong reputation, values, and commitment to doing things the right way.

Over the years, I’ve learned just how impactful this industry is. What I love most is that I get to combine my passion for marketing and events with a sector that plays such a vital role in security, sustainability, and business efficiency.

What does your role as Marketing & Events Coordinator involve?

In my role, I work closely with our external marketing agency, Fantastic Media, to develop and deliver our marketing strategy. We meet regularly to share updates, discuss new ideas, and bring campaigns to life, through email, social media and PR, that showcase the best of what S2S Group does, as well as maintaining our website.

I am responsible for researching and coordinating industry events where S2S Group can demonstrate its ITAD expertise, ensuring we’re represented at the right shows and exhibitions that deliver the most impact. For example, most recently our teams have attended events across the country representing our ability to support those in the defence sector at DISA, as well as join the conversation at recycling exhibitions such as the Recycling Expo

Internally, I plan and deliver a range of company and community events, from charity initiatives like bake sales, skydives, and volunteering days, to staff celebrations such as our quarterly parties, Christmas event, and national awareness days. Every event is designed to bring people together and strengthen the culture we’ve built here.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role at S2S Group?

Many of the internal events I organise focus on supporting our community. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the whole team come together, whether through bake sales, sports tournaments, or clothing drives, to make a real difference.

Visiting our charity partners and personally delivering our collections makes the experience even more meaningful. It’s fulfilling to know that what we do as a team has a direct and positive impact on others.

What has been your proudest moment working at S2S Group?

My proudest moment has definitely been my personal and professional growth. Starting as a Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprentice in 2021, I progressed to Marketing Assistant and, in 2024, was promoted to Marketing & Events Coordinator.

Throughout this journey, I’ve been supported and encouraged every step of the way, and I have also completed training such as Advanced Graphic Design courses and Armada’s Introduction to Adobe Premiere Pro. The S2S team has not only guided me in developing my skills but also celebrated each milestone with me – something I’m incredibly grateful for.

How has S2S Group evolved with the IT industry?

Since joining in 2021, I’ve witnessed remarkable transformation. I came on board as we launched our 2021–2024 growth strategy, and it’s been inspiring to see how much progress we’ve made since then.

We’ve achieved all our original goals such as strengthening our foothold across areas like defence and public sector industries. and are now driving forward under our 2024–2027 strategy, building new partnerships, strengthening existing ones, expanding our presence at key industry events, and enhancing our marketing efforts to reach a wider audience.

We’ve also earned numerous new certifications and improved our performance in existing ones, including elevating our EcoVadis rating from Silver in 2024 to Gold in 2025, a testament to our dedication to sustainability and excellence.

What challenges or opportunities are most affecting the ITAD industry right now?

In terms of challenges, the UK’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations are being updated, introducing new responsibilities for online marketplaces from January 2026, which will require more organisations to take accountability for e-waste collection, recycling, and reporting. However, many businesses still lack awareness of their obligations under these changes or the risks linked to improper disposal. At the same time, rapid technological advancement means devices are becoming obsolete faster than ever, reducing their resale value and contributing to the growing volume of e-waste.

However, there is significant potential in promoting asset lifecycle management services, which recover valuable materials from electronic devices and ensure proper recycling, enabling businesses to choose a greener and more sustainable approach to ITAD.

At S2S Group, all services are managed in-house, providing unmatched security and transparency through our Trakk-IT portal, which allows clients to track every stage of the ITAD and recycling process. Another key opportunity lies in education and support, as we help organisations understand the importance of selecting a fully compliant ITAD provider.

Our comprehensive documentation offers clear audit evidence, while our on-site data destruction services provide clients with the highest level of assurance by allowing them to witness the secure disposal of their assets firsthand. Beyond compliance, we continue to empower clients to reduce their carbon footprint and adopt more sustainable, responsible methods of managing their technology assets.

What do you think sets S2S Group apart from others in the industry?

Without a doubt, it’s our commitment to compliance and certification. S2S Group holds over 16 industry-recognised licenses and certifications, positioning us among the UK’s most trusted and qualified ITAD providers. Our customers know they’re working with a partner who takes security, quality, and sustainability seriously.

How does responsible ITAD management benefit businesses?

Responsible ITAD protects businesses by ensuring sensitive data is securely destroyed, helping prevent data breaches, fines, and legal complications. It also ensures that all electronic devices are disposed of properly, reducing environmental impact and supporting sustainability goals.

Ultimately, it gives businesses peace of mind, knowing their data and devices are handled securely, ethically, and in line with regulations.

Leading the future of sustainable IT asset management

The ITAD industry continues to evolve rapidly, driven by regulation, technology, and sustainability priorities. For Ruby, being part of a company that leads the way in secure, transparent, and environmentally responsible asset management makes her role both dynamic and meaningful.
